Daniel Schmit started his lecture talking briefly about the Weizmann Institute, its history, evolution, and its present. He mentioned that one of the main pillars for the WIS is basic research in the areas of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The WIS always seeks to bring in the best researchers in the world to be a part of its body of scientists and scholars. Many studies, even if basic, may provide major benefits to humanity, such as the various drugs that have been discovered by its researchers. Another subject he mentioned was the construction of a new Neuroscience center that will gather all of WIS’ Neuroscience groups to study neurodegenerative diseases, post-traumatic syndrome disorders, neurologic tumors, among others. Daniel also spoke about works related to Covid and about the status of the vaccination in Israel.
