The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that in December the first batch of vaccines produced by Pfizer arrives and said that, to serve as an example, he will be the first person to be vaccinated.
“It is a day of celebration for Israel! I intend to be the first to vaccinate, to be an example for the rest of the population. The end (of the pandemic) is near”, he said.
Israel bought in November 8 million doses from Pfizer with deliveries scheduled from January 2021, but the first doses of the vaccine arrived ahead of schedule, on the eve of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of Lights celebrated from Thursday. It is estimated that already on this December 23 the first doses begin to be administered and 2021 will begin with new perspectives for the Israeli population, which will have the production of 60,000 doses daily of the immunizing agent.
According to the Prime Minister, those who are vaccinated can present a certificate or a document, proving the immunity and, in this way, they will have a “green passport” to enter the events, supermarkets and all kinds of services.
From the beginning of the pandemic to the first half of December, more than 1.5 million people have died worldwide. Almost 70 million have already been infected and fortunately 44 million have been able to recover. In Israel, from the beginning of the pandemic to the first half of December, approximately 3,000 people died.
This number is certainly not insignificant in the face of a pitiful tragedy that has compromised the health and lives of so many people. However, the Israeli government has been working actively since the beginning of the pandemic to reduce as much as possible the deaths and impacts caused by coronavirus on both public health and the economy, not allowing the outbreak of a deep economic crisis.
With vaccination now in December in Israel, the country will come out ahead, alongside other countries, in the deepest measures to bring back the normalization of the lives of millions of people around the world. This is undoubtedly great news to close the year 2020 and start 2021 with new perspectives!
