Creating and maintaining relationships with other countries is essential for the social, cultural, and economic development of the country. The bilateral agreement seeks to reduce import taxes reciprocally between countries. The objective is to stimulate international trade, especially of products with an internal demand, in addition to what domestic producers can provide, or when there is no similar product in the importing country. Other advantages are the harmonization of standards and regulations; attracting foreign investments; greater international bargaining capacity, and the possibility to offer products with more competitive prices.
Given these numerous benefits, Brazil has a bilateral agreement with Israel known as the Free Trade Agreement, which also includes Mercosur. Signed in 2007, it constituted Israel as the first extra-regional partner to enter into this type of agreement with the bloc. This agreement covers several topics, including trade in goods, rules of origin, safeguards, cooperation in technical, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, and technological, technical and customs cooperation.
