From October 19 to 21, the 3rd International Symposium on Security – Technological Innovations in The Fight against Crime was held. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was held virtually and had a record number of registrations, about 3,000 participants in the areas of security, intelligence and technology. Promoted by the National Association of the Federal Police Chiefs, the event aimed to discuss innovations in the fight against crime and new security solutions for Brazil.

When it comes to technology and security, Israel is the major reference for entrepreneurs and many countries, as it invests widely in monitoring technologies, facial recognition, drones and crime-fighting technologies.

Among the participating experts was Israel’s current ambassador in Brazil, Yossi Shelley, who presented the “Border Tech” panel on the project that uses an Israeli technology for an intelligent control and monitoring system. In this panel, the following sentence of the ambassador gained prominence: “Technology is indispensable and a great ally in the construction of public security policies in any country”.

The program works with a technology applied in the identification of people and vehicles considered suspects, alerting in case of a possibility of theft or robbery. It works as follows: the system digitalizes the faces of people filmed through the various cameras, crosses the images with a database of the Internal Revenue Service, which it is integrated to, and reinforces, in addition to other places, the control of the border between Brazil and Paraguay. This way, it is possible, for example, to prevent several illicit products from entering the national territory, such as weapons, drugs, goods and all kinds of illegal goods.

In addition, Israel has been strongly exploring the universe of entrepreneurship related to cybersecurity, with more than 400 companies dedicated to the topic in the country, and more than 300 are startups. The research and advances made by the Israelis in this field serve as an inspiration for the whole world, with the country even receiving 20% of the world’s private investments in the area.

Israel never stops innovating. These are constant efforts to create new tools and equipment, with advances that increasingly contribute to fighting against the growth of violence and crime rates.
