[:en]Daniel Schmit started his lecture talking briefly about the Weizmann Institute, its history, evolution, and its present. He mentioned that one of the main pillars for the WIS is basic research in the areas of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The WIS always seeks to bring in the best researchers in the world to be a part of its body of scientists and scholars. Many studies, even if basic, may provide major benefits to humanity, such as the various drugs that have been discovered by its researchers. Another subject he mentioned was the construction of a new Neuroscience center that will gather all of WIS’ Neuroscience groups to study neurodegenerative diseases, post-traumatic syndrome disorders, neurologic tumors, among others. Daniel also spoke about works related to Covid and about the status of the vaccination in Israel.

[:pt]O conteúdo da palestra do Daniel Schmit se resumiu primeiramente em contar um pouco do Institutor Weizman, sua história, evolução e o presente. Ele contou que o WIS tem com principal pilar a pesquisa básica das áreas de Biologia, Fisica, Quimica e Matemática. O WIS visa sempre trazer os melhores pesquisadores do mundo para fazer parte do ser corpo de cientistas e acadêmicos. Muitas das pesquisas, mesmo sendo básicas podem trazer grande benefício para a humanidade como vários medicamentos que já foram descobertos pelos seus pesquisadores. Outro ponto que ele mencionou foi a construção de um novo centro de Neurociências onde reunira todos os grupos de Neurociencias do WIS para estudo de doenças neurodegerativas, Post traumatic syndrome disorders, tumores neurológicos entre outros. Daniel também contou sobre os trabalhos na área de covid e como está a vacinação em Israel.
